Can you tell us a little about your training centre?
The Skillscenter was created in January 2023 with the following objective: to be a training centre created by engineers and architects, for engineers and architects. However, our training courses are also open to other audiences.
Today, we offer more than 50 courses in eight specific areas related to engineering, project management and safety. In addition to these, we offer tailor-made courses.
Our sessions can accommodate up to fifteen people at our premises. Thanks to a modular and flexible infrastructure, we encourage both individual and group work. In-house sessions are also possible.
How did this initiative come about? What are its ambitions?
The idea originated during my early years at LSC Engineering Group. Working in the field of safety and construction supervision, I noticed that there was little training available in these areas and that there was a need to address this.
In a rapidly changing world, it is essential to update one’s skills in order to adapt to new technologies, but also to the latest legislation in force.
The changes will not stop at what we already know: digitalisation, artificial intelligence, widespread automation… It is therefore essential to stay connected and update your expertise. I would even say that it is part of our job.
What training courses are available? Who are they aimed at in particular?
As mentioned in the introduction, engineers and architects are our main target audience. However, our training courses are open to everyone, whether they are professionals in the private sector or the civil service. I am thinking in particular of developers, and even some people from outside the construction industry. Training courses that require theoretical or technical prerequisites are clearly identified in our offering.
What are the specific advantages for participants from the private sector or the civil service compared to other training programmes?
This is a different, alternative continuing professional development programme that is recognised by the State. Civil servants who are required to undertake training throughout their careers can have their skills recognised at our training centre.
We stand out above all for our theoretical focus in the field of design studies. Our participants are surrounded by experts in the field who can support them and help them improve their skills.
Of course, existing training co-financing measures apply at the Skillscenter, as it is a recognised and accredited professional training centre. Another advantage is that most of our training courses are offered in two languages: French or German.
How does the training provided by the Skillscenter contribute to the adaptability of professionals in a constantly evolving sector?
All our training courses are delivered by active experts. They are therefore familiar with the challenges and needs in the field, as well as the need to adapt to technological and regulatory developments. This ensures that our trainers and the knowledge they impart are always up to date.
We strive to tailor the content of our training courses as closely as possible to the individual needs of our participants and their specific requests.
The idea is to provide a tailor-made body of knowledge that meets our clients’ expectations in a specific field.
What about the teaching approach used to ensure the effective transfer of knowledge and skills?
It is important to note that we avoid the lecture method as much as possible, where the trainer presents their knowledge to a passive audience. We ensure that participants interact with the trainer and with each other in order to better understand and assimilate the knowledge. This also has a positive effect on the participants’ attention span. Practical case studies are very important in order to anchor this knowledge in reality and not remain at a purely theoretical level.
Do you have any concrete examples of cases where your training courses have enabled participants to overcome specific challenges encountered in their daily work?
It is difficult to give you a specific example without going into detail about the professional context that accompanies the solution proposed by our trainers. However, I can assure you that each of our trainers is available to participants to assist them with the specific issues they are dealing with. Together, they develop a solution that each participant can integrate into their project.
What are the prospects for expanding the Skillscenter’s offering to better meet the needs and expectations of your clients?
We are constantly working on new training courses in different sectors, always in line with developments in tools and regulations. The idea is always to put in place training proposals that respond precisely to these challenges.
With the digital revolution (AI, digitalisation, etc.), the world of work and training is undergoing major changes. Why is it urgent to start training today?
There will always be many tasks that artificial intelligence cannot perform. Even in professions such as engineering or architecture, where technology and machines are very important, humans remain irreplaceable, particularly in the creation and control of operations.
These new technologies are already here and will be even more so in the future. Therefore, it will be necessary to know how to work with these tools in order to get the most out of them. The ability to master these technologies and use them wisely will be a major asset for any economic player. It is therefore imperative to get trained quickly in order to avoid being left behind and unable to offer relevant solutions.
