N7 Crossing

Road construction & various networks

The National Road 7, or Noordstrooss, was heavily congested until the opening of the A7 motorway in September 2015. The A7 reduced traffic by around 35% between Rollingen and Lorenzweiler, but the N7 remained dangerous. The Ministry of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure (MDDI) commissioned several studies to develop a project aimed at improving safety through the built-up area.

The carriageways have a total width of 11.50 metres, of which 6.50 metres are dedicated to car traffic. On both sides of the road, a 2.50-metre-wide cycle path has been created, along with a 2.50-metre-wide safe pedestrian walkway, separated from the cycle path.

Trees have been planted along both sides of the road. Narrowed sections, speed bumps and 30 km/h zones help to reduce vehicle speeds. Buses are given priority through intelligent traffic light systems, and pedestrian crossings are located close to bus stops.
