The new Kirchberg water tower, 49 meters high, is a design object and stands out strongly from the older, more functional water towers. Ambitious architecturally, it is located in a Natura 2000 protected area of community interest and integrates harmoniously into its environment. Designed by the architects of Temperaturas Extremas Arquitectos, it also serves as a refuge for birds, bats, and other animal species: various nests will gradually be installed to attract more wildlife. Refuges for bats and a nesting site for the peregrine falcon are already available. The latter is located in the concrete cube.
The water tower consists of two tanks with a capacity of 600 and 400 m³ and is supplied with water from the Glasbouren and Sebes springs. It follows the urban development of Kirchberg, notably with the creation of the future Kuebebierg district, which will accommodate 7,000 new inhabitants.
The reinforced concrete construction has two types of façades: one with untreated wooden slats on a metal frame and the other in architectonic patterned concrete.
