Transformation National Museum of the Resistance

The museum, which had been closed since 2018 for renovation works, reopened its doors in March 2024.
A first phase involved upgrading the former building constructed in 1956 by Nicolas Schmit-Noesen to bring it up to modern standards. The necessary renovations were carried out, including the refurbishment of floors and lighting, replacement of the skylight and ventilation system, and the redesign of the exterior square.
The most significant change is the extension of the museum: the adjoining house located at 136 rue de l’Alzette was demolished to make way for a new building tailored to the museum’s needs. The basement is dedicated to temporary exhibitions, while the ground floor and first floor are used for the permanent exhibition.
Spaces for administration, visitor reception and workshops, as well as storage and archival areas, were included. A new façade creates a visual and functional link between the two buildings.
