The project involves the conversion, extension and renovation of the National Museum of the Resistance, located in Esch-sur-Alzette. Closed to the public since 2018, the museum reopened in March 2024.
The first phase involved upgrading the existing building, constructed in 1956 by Nicolas Schmit-Noesen, including the renovation of the floors, the replacement of the lighting, the glass roof and the ventilation system, as well as the refurbishment of the outdoor areas.
The project also includes a significant extension: the adjoining house was demolished to allow for the construction of a new building. The basement is intended for temporary exhibitions, whilst the ground floor and first floor house the permanent exhibition. Spaces for administration, reception, workshops, storage and archiving have been incorporated, with a new façade linking the old and new buildings.
