Mierscherbierg Sports Campus in Mersch

Urban Planning and Land Use Planning

In summer 2023, the municipality of Mersch launched a competitive dialogue with remuneration to develop the Mierscherbierg sports campus. Covering 8.45 hectares, the consortium proposed a structuring project with MariscArena that combines sport and leisure, harmoniously complementing the urban fabric between the motorway and the ring road. The aim was to create an attractive, multifunctional hub for residents, sports clubs and visitors.

Based on a detailed analysis of the site – topography, environment, landscape continuity and links with neighbouring districts – the project organised the facilities from south to north: outdoor grounds in the lower area, indoor buildings in the upper area, ensuring a smooth transition to the activity zone. Landscape integration, the structuring of public spaces and flow management ensured a coherent and user-friendly campus.

The project, which was not selected at the end of the competition, was praised for its universal accessibility, the strong identity of the sports hall and its sustainable approach.
