In 2025, LSC360, in collaboration with Jonas Architectes, took part in the ‘Sauerträisch’ urban planning competition, launched by the SNHBM and the municipality of Steinfort.
As part of this, a masterplan was drawn up for a 9.5-hectare site, structured around guiding principles aimed at creating a sustainable, diverse and forward-looking residential neighbourhood. Following the first phase, which was presented to the jury and the public in the summer of 2025, the project was shortlisted for the second phase of the competition. The revised version of the masterplan, presented at the end of November 2025, was awarded second place.
The Sauerträisch project proposes a model for a resilient, inclusive and adaptable neighbourhood, structured around residential blocks organised around communal courtyards that encourage social interaction whilst ensuring high-quality private spaces. Particular attention is paid to social diversity through a varied range of housing options and the inclusion of 40 per cent affordable housing.
Integrated into its natural environment, the project is underpinned by a network of green spaces that promote biodiversity and actively contribute to a comfortable climate and quality of life. Designed in line with the principles of the ‘15-minute city’, the neighbourhood prioritises soft mobility and optimal access to local amenities.
Flexible and adaptable, Sauerträisch is designed to meet future needs whilst blending seamlessly with Steinfort’s existing urban and landscape fabric.
